Hilary Smith, Associate
Hilary Smith represents both detained and non-detained individuals and families seeking relief from removal, in addition to providing representation in other immigration-related matters. She joined Gibbs Houston Pauw after nearly three years of working as an Attorney Advisor at the Tacoma Immigration Court. She eagerly transitioned into private practice to provide passionate advocacy for her clients.
Hilary received her J.D. from the University of Denver, Strum College of Law in 2022. During law school, she participated in the Immigration Law and Policy Clinic as a student attorney, where she represented detained individuals at the Aurora Immigration Court in Colorado. She also completed multiple internships that focused on immigration law, including spending one summer working with Yale Law School’s Worker and Immigration Rights Advocacy Clinic, where she assisted in some of the first class action lawsuits filed regrading mistreatment of detainees during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hilary is admitted to practice law in Washington, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Outside of work, Hilary enjoys reading, attending Pilates classes, learning Spanish, and watching Liverpool and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. She enjoys exploring the Pacific Northwest and hopes to visit every continent at some point in the future (especially including Antarctica!).
